For most people the thought of joining a commercial gym with absolutely no training experience is daunting, even intimidating. This is in fact one of the main reasons most people fail at the gym despite all of their good intentions. However, if you are determined to get up and actually do something about it, working with a personal trainer, even just to get some experience in a safe setting, is worth it.
Working 1 on 1 with a personal trainer gives you the opportunity to train in a 'safe' environment without the intimidation you'd get walking into the weights room of a commercial gym full of experienced lifters, wondering if you are being watched or judged by anyone else, and, it doesn't matter that you dodn't know what equipment does what.
1 on 1 personal training also provides you with someone dedicated to you. Someone who will help you set and reach your goals. Someone who will teach you from scratch how to warm up, how to stretch, how to lift, how to eat and most importantly explain why you are doing what you are doing every step of the way.
I would be the first to admit that no matter what route you take, changing your routine and lifestyle is not easy. Even 1 on 1 personal training can be a little daunting at first. However, I have been in the same position as most of my clients and understand first hand the physical and mental challenges beginners face and how to motivate and re-motivate yourself to reach your goals.
Being a bit of a 'late bloomer' myself, I am also acutely aware of how someone more 'mature' copes with and responds to training – not just the physical and mental side of things but also the practical, such as fitting your training and nutrition around a busy work and personal life.
So, if you are serious about changing your lifestyle but aren't sure where to start or even think you may be a little 'long in the tooth' to start training, why not work with someone who has been exactly where you are now.
